Factory Farming Creates New Diseases
The stupid practice of factory farming is creating new and more deadly diseases.
Researchers from The Roslin Institute of the University of Edinburgh have demonstrated that a strain of bacteria has jumped from humans to chickens. While the process has been going on for some time this is believed to be the first clear laboratory evidence of bacterial pathogens crossing over from humans to animals.
The study identified a form of the dangerous bacteria Staphylococcus aureus in chickens that originally came from humans. DNA testing indicates that the bacteria started infecting chickens about the same time that factory farming became widespread.
In humans the Staphylococcus aureus was isolated to one geographical area but the strain in chickens has spread globally. Chickens are normally exposed to the same pathogens humans and other beings are exposed to but the filthy and tortuous conditions the chickens are kept in destroy the chicken's immune systems. Without the ability to withstand the onslaught of disease the birds become breeding grounds for bacteria and so are pumped full of increasingly toxic anti-biotics which then creates antibiotic resistant bacteria which can then infect and kill humans and wildlife.
The needless human addiction to eating the dead bodies of animals is wreaking havoc on the planet. Given the fact that there is absolutely no nutritional requirement for humans to eat animal products it is high time that people adopt a saner and healthier plant-based diet and stop contributing to the destruction of the planet.
