Protestors Needed for BIO 2010 in Chicago
Those conspiring to control & destroy life on Earth will be gathering to discuss their progress at Bio 2010 in Chicago this May.
The Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO) is the world’s largest biotechnology lobbying organization, representing over 1100 corporations, university departments, and state biotechnology centers from their headquarters in Washington, DC.
Their annual international convention will be in Chicago this year, May 3rd - 6th at McCormick Place. The conference, self-reportedly, consists of 70% upper management from international biotech corporations encompassing nearly 60 countries, over 200 universities, the top 10 largest pharmaceutical companies, and national and international politicians, policy makers, and investors. Former keynote speakers include Jeb Bush, Tom Daschle, Karl Rove, and Colin Powell. In short, it is a massive gathering of the people most responsible for the current climate of medical and scientific dialogue, research, policy and profit.
The BIO convention is not a scientific meeting. It is an expensive gathering of business executives, investors, lawyers and public relations officials. In past years, less than 10% of registrants have been scientists. The entrance fee ranges from $1200 (for early registrants who are BIO members) to nearly $3000.
Typically, the convention is accompanied by a series of protests in whichever city it’s taking place. While these protests have been consistent, this year a cross-issue group based in Chicago aims to increase their scope and teach the public what BIO is really about. Biotech industries affect global health, the state of insurance, pharmaceutical development and distribution. They are fully responsible for the cost of health care, the death of millions of people each year who are killed by preventable, treatable diseases, as well as the deaths of tens of millions of animals who are killed for exploitative, outdated, and unscientific animal testing, and the perpetuation of agricultural and genetic engineering.
BioJustice Chicago incorporates groups and individuals who demand that the biotech industry respects human rights, environmental rights and animal rights in the following ways:
1. Stop corporate control of politics to protect public freedom and well-being,
2. Put people before profits- guarantee access to quality healthcare for all people,
3. Stop the cruel and unnecessary practice of animal testing,
4. Take responsibility for our environment - stop using our ecosystem as a laboratory!
